ECOWITT GW1206 Soil Moisture Kit

ECOWITT GW1206 Soil Moisture Kit

Before you buy: this kit needs Wi-Fi and a wall outlet. The probe reports by radio to the kit's gateway, and the gateway reaches the internet only through Wi-Fi and runs only on USB power. You need a house, barn or shed with both, within radio range of your beds. If your plot has only cellular coverage and sun, buy the ECOWITT WittField 4G & Solar Field Weather Station and add WH51 probes to it instead.

Where you do have Wi-Fi and power, this is the smallest way into measuring your own ground. The kit pairs Ecowitt's GW1200 Wi-Fi gateway, which also reads indoor temperature, humidity and pressure, with one WH51 wireless soil moisture probe.

Out in the field. The probe runs on a single AA battery that lasts about a year, so it can sit in a bed or a row far from any outlet; lithium AAs hold up best through a northern winter. Put the gateway in the building nearest your plot, and the probes can stay out in the ground all season.

The readings go to the free Ecowitt.net service, which serves them back through a REST API, and the gateway can also push them to a web address you choose. A watering script, a dashboard or an AI agent can read the bed's moisture without anyone walking out to check.

The gateway accepts up to eight soil moisture probes and Ecowitt's soil temperature probes, so the kit grows with the garden. Soil temperature is what Good Earth MCP projects for planting windows; a probe in the ground lets you check that projection against your own soil.
