Every coffee we sell tastes of somewhere. Growers call it terroir: the soil, the slope, the rain and the cold nights of one particular place, showing up in the cup. Hayek called the same thing knowledge of the particular circumstances of time and place, and argued that no planner far away can ever hold it. The agrarians went further and said a free people needs to hold its own ground and know it.

These are the instruments for knowing your own terroir. They are weather stations and soil sensors built for the open field: the outdoor pieces run on solar power or batteries and report by radio, so they can stand in a plot all season, and each setup hands its readings back through a REST API that your own scripts and AI agents can read.

Every sensor reaches the internet through a gateway, so choose the gateway first. If your plot has cellular coverage and sun, start with the WittField 4G & Solar Field Weather Station, whose gateway uploads over 4G and runs on its own solar panel. If a building with Wi-Fi and an outlet is within radio range, the Wittboy, the GW1206 kit or Tempest will do. The soil probes report through whichever gateway you choose.
