Before you buy: this station needs Wi-Fi and a wall outlet. The Wittboy's mast reports by radio to a small indoor hub, and that hub reaches the internet only through Wi-Fi and runs only on USB power. You need a house, barn or shed with both, within radio range of the mast. If your plot has only cellular coverage and sun, buy the ECOWITT WittField 4G & Solar Field Weather Station instead: its gateway uploads over 4G, runs on its own solar panel, and accepts the same soil probes.
The Wittboy pairs Ecowitt's GW2000 Wi-Fi hub with the WS90, a single solar-powered mast that measures temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, light, UV and rainfall. Its haptic rain sensor has no tipping bucket to clog, and the whole array mounts on one pole.
Out in the field. The mast needs no wiring. A built-in solar panel powers it, and backup batteries carry it through nights and cloudy spells, so you can set it on a post in an open field, away from buildings that shade it or bend the wind. It reaches the hub by radio up to roughly 300 metres across open ground and about half that through trees and walls.
What earns it a place on our shelf is what happens to the data. The readings go to the free Ecowitt.net service, which serves them back through a REST API keyed to your own application and API keys, and the hub can also push each reading to a web address you choose. Your own scripts or AI agents can therefore read your weather directly rather than through a phone app.
The same hub accepts Ecowitt's battery-powered soil moisture and soil temperature probes, so one gateway in the barn can report both the sky over your plot and the ground under it. It is a natural companion to Good Earth MCP: Good Earth projects frost dates and growing degree days for your block from regional data, and the Wittboy tells you what actually happened there.
