Tempest Weather Station
Tempest Weather Station
Before you buy: this station needs Wi-Fi and a wall outlet. The Tempest sensor reports by radio to a small indoor hub, and that hub reaches the internet only through Wi-Fi and runs on USB power. Tempest offers no cellular option. If your plot has only cellular coverage and sun, look at the ECOWITT WittField 4G & Solar Field Weather Station, whose gateway uploads over 4G and runs on its own solar panel.
Tempest is a weather station with no moving parts. A single sensor measures temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, rain, solar radiation, UV and nearby lightning, and reports every few seconds. With nothing to spin or tip, it asks for very little maintenance.
Out in the field. The sensor is solar-powered and carries its own rechargeable battery, so it runs year-round on a post in the open with no cable to it. The maker puts its radio range to the hub at more than 1,000 feet in the open, so the sensor can stand where the weather is rather than beside an outlet, as long as the hub's building is within that range.
Tempest is also the most developer-friendly station we know of. Owners can create a personal access token in the Tempest web app and read their station's observations from a documented REST API, so your own scripts and AI agents can work from your field readings directly.
Pair it with Good Earth MCP: Good Earth reasons about your block from regional climate data, and Tempest reports what your block actually saw. Tempest measures the air rather than the soil; for ground readings, see the Ecowitt sensors in this collection.
